The Greene County volleyball team had a 2-2 week last week ahead of their first regional game as the end of the season approaches, putting the team 15-12 overall and 5-2 in the conference play, placing them third in the standings.

On Thursday, the Rams hosted Perry for senior night, going 3-0 with set scores of 25-11, 25-17 and 25-12. Outside hitter Kaylee Stalder and libero Graci Cooklin were the seniors honored for their time and dedication to the team. Violet Reedy led in assists with 24 for the night and aces with three. Kaylee Stalder had 14 kills and Emma Ewalt registered 11 digs in the game. The team had a 92-percent serving rate in the night.

“Passing was good, which led to many offensive opportunities. It was a good conference win,” commented coach Chris Heisterkamp.

On Saturday, the team traveled to Winterset for a tournament, winning one of three games. Against Red Oak, the team fell 2-0 with scores of 21-14 and 21-16. Reedy led in assists with nine, Stalder in kills with five and Cooklin in digs with 10.

The Rams also fell to Winterset, going 2-1. The Rams lost 21-13 in the first set before rallying to win 21-16 in the second. In the third, they fell 15-13. Reedy led again with assists, totaling 18 in the game. Stalder had eight kills and Cooklin had nine digs. Lila Osterson had two aces for the Rams.

Greene County finally found a win on Saturday against Webster City, going 2-0 with scores of 21-17 and 21-15. Reedy had 14 assists, Kokenge had five kills, Shipley had two blocks and Cooklin had six digs.

The Rams were scheduled to face Van Meter on the Bulldogs’ home court on Tuesday, Oct. 17 for the first round of Class 3A Region 3 play. Van Meter went into the game with an overall season record of 20-10 and were sitting fifth in the West Central Activities Conference. Tuesday’s game was the first time the teams faced each other this season.

The winner of the game advances to face the winner of the Des Moines Christian versus Atlantic game on Oct. 19 while the losing team’s season ends. The regional championship game is slated for Tuesday, Oct. 24, at a site to be determined.
